Welcome! I am currently a Postdoctoral Fellow (Assistant Professor) at the Department of Political Science at the University of Oslo. Prior to joining the University of Oslo, I was postdoctoral fellow at the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) at the University of California, San Diego. I received a PhD degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago in 2020. During the doctoral studies, I served as a predoctoral fellow and a visiting scholar at the Institute for Security and Conflict Studies (ISCS) at the Elliot School of International Affairs, the George Washington University.

My research interests include strategies of extended deterrence, nuclear politics, alliance commitments, the diffusion of military technology, and international relations of the Asia-Pacific. My book project examines how a nuclear patron provides a security umbrella over a non-nuclear client to protect it from external threats. My research has appeared in Security Studies, The Washington Quarterly, and is forthcoming at The Chinese Journal of International Politics.

I hold a BA and an MA degree in Political Science from Korea University. From 2005 to 2007, I served as a member of Special Commando Battalion in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.

My research has been supported by the Smith Richardson Foundation, the Charles Koch Foundation, the Scowcroft Institute of International Affairs, and the George Washington University.
