Welcome! I am a Stanton Nuclear Security Junior Faculty Fellow at the Center for Nuclear Security Policy (CNSP), within the Security Studies Program (SSP) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Prior to joining MIT, I was an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Oslo.
I have also held a postdoctoral fellowship at the Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC) at the UC San Diego, and a predoctoral fellowship at the Institute for Security and Conflict Studies (ISCS) at George Washington University.
I received a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Chicago. I also hold an M.A. and a B.A. in Political Science from Korea University. Prior to pursuing an academic career, I served in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps.
My research interests include nuclear weapons, extended deterrence, alliance politics, and military technology. My research has been published or is forthcoming in Security Studies (x2), Texas National Security Review, The British Journal of Politics and International Relations, The Washington Quarterly, The Chinese Journal of International Politics, The Pacific Review, and The Nonproliferation Review. My commentary has appeared in War on the Rocks and The Diplomat.
I served as an infantryman in the Republic of Korea Marine Corps (Marine Corps Ranger Battalion) for two years.
